3 Easy Garden Jobs for Late Winter
Christmas has been and gone, the snow and ice of January has melted away, and as winter draws to a close, we yearn for longer, warmer, sunnier days and the time of year where there is nothing better than enjoying our outdoor spaces. However, after a long winter, and the weather making gardening difficult, it may be tricky to know where to start when spring arrives…We’ve put together a list of three simple gardening tasks that will satisfy the itch to tidy your garden, and will make your life a little easier when spring begins in earnest.
1. Check your garden furniture

Try to have an early check on your garden furniture after its winter hiatus to avoid any nasty surprises when the warmer weather arrives. On a dry day, take off the cover or remove your set from storage, clear off any dust and cobwebs, and give the chairs, sofas and tables a gentle clean. If your seating has cushions with removable covers, it might be a good idea to pop them in the washing machine so they are nice and clean for when they are needed. If after cleaning your furniture looks worse for wear and needs refreshing, this is the ideal time of year to take advantage of sales and treat yourself to a brand new outdoor furniture set for this year.
2. Inspect your fencing, gates, trellis & decking

Storms wreaked havoc over the winter (think back to Storm Darragh in December) and were followed by the snow and ice of January. Throw Christmas into the mix and you may not have had a proper chance, budget or weather to assess and repair any damage caused. Take some time to thoroughly check your fencing, gates and trellis to make sure that it is still sturdy and secure and replace it if needed. It is the perfect time to do this if your fencing has flower beds and borders alongside, as you will have extra space before any flowers grow and bloom.
3. Tidy the shed

“A clean home is a happy home” – this can apply to your shed too!
It might seem a trivial and boring job, but it is something you will be glad you did when you’re in and out of the shed more often. Remove any rubbish you may have thrown in in a hurry, and generally get your tools, equipment and supplies in order ready for easy access.
With these simple jobs complete for spring’s arrival, you will be well versed to tackle the bigger garden jobs when they arrive, helping you to keep your garden looking great quickly and easily.
