The Garden Shed: Part 1 – Timber Storage
When you think of the garden shed, you probably think of the traditional wooden storage building that has been a staple in gardens across the world for over a century. In fact, timber sheds are the cornerstone of our business; in the early 1980s, the Rowlinson 6X4 Shiplap Shed was created – the first of its kind, and in those days had a retail price of only £99!
However, choosing the perfect shed for your garden storage needs and budget can be a difficult and time consuming task. Thanks to the huge variety of shapes, sizes, materials and price points available, you may wonder: what is the best type of shed for my garden? In this series, “The Garden Shed”, we will use our expertise to highlight the many options available and show the benefits of the three main construction types on the market: timber, metal and plastic to help you decide – starting with timber sheds.

Timeless Design
If you’re looking for a shed that will blend in seamlessly in contemporary or traditional garden designs, timber sheds are the best option. This shed material is usually provided either pressure treated, allowing for the natural colour of wood to be the star of the show, blending into your garden design, or with a factory applied stain. It also makes it easy to paint or stain the shed to suit the style of your garden.
Sustainable Materials
Wood is a natural, renewable material and providing it is sourced responsibly, offers superior environmental credentials compared to plastic and metal alternatives providing not just practical, but environmentally sound garden storage.
Choices…
Timber sheds are available in a huge variety of sizes. From small storage chests, to large, heavy-duty workshops, there is a high chance that you will be able to find the perfect sized shed for your space and storage needs.

Customisable
Whether you need a lean-to for log storage, or shelving to keep your tools and equipment neat and tidy, timber sheds are extremely easy to customise internally and externally.
Suit all budgets
Timber garden storage is available in a variety of construction types and finishes to suit all budgets.
Shiplap cladding is the more premium, robust option, constructed from boards that slot together to create a seamless panel with no gaps and a smooth, planed finish. On the other hand, overlap cladding is more budget friendly, where the panels overlap each other but do not interlock. Overlap has a sawn finish, creating a more rustic look.
